• Marketing Job Interview Questions

    Jan 31

Marketing is a broad industry that although requires special skills, is also highly trainable. To help employers look for the right person for that marketing position in their company, here are some tips on what kinds of questions to ask.

    1) What are the qualities of a good brand manager? Branding is one of the first and key roles of a market specialist. An interviewer will probably ask for the applicant’s background and have him walk through the major experiences relating to each of these qualities.
    2) Strategic Planning questions like “How would you sell more ice cream in winter?” or “How would you sell unconventional domain names using the conservative approach?” are more specific questions that interviewees need to prepare for as well. Employers need to know how an applicant thinks and would likely act in a given situation.
    3) Could you give me some advertising flops you know of? This question would likely give the interviewer an idea of how you will likely avoid bad advertising and marketing situations as well. Interviewers are looking for specific areas in an advertisement that needs to be changed or totally eliminated.
    4) What is your leadership style, and how do you use this to solve problems encountered at work. If you have no experience at work yet, then it giving a bookish answer is fine. But applicants should give as much insight on their leadership skills to the interviewer while being as brief and concise as possible.

Besides preparing for general questions, an applicant should also prepare for job specific questions that will help the employer get to his skills in the best light.
